About

My son Jason and I at the Oregon beach.

My name is Brad Nelson.  When I was a kid and people asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up, I told them I wanted to be an inventor.  At 28, I should probably stop saying “when I grow up”, but as I’m still working to get my big ideas off the ground, I don’t consider myself there yet.

As a self-described aspiring inventor, I should warn you that I have many of the stereotypical characteristics of many famous inventors: few social skills, poor money management habits, and there are times when working on projects that I go for days without showering, shaving, or brushing my teeth (which I don’t need to worry about because I usually forget to eat also).  It’s the worst parts of Dilbert’s telecommuting experiences.

My wife Angie, two-week-old Jason, and Brad

This blog is just a little bit of advice and tidbits for fellow aspiring inventors.  In particular I hope my projects inspire high schoolers and younger kidlets to do great things.  I grew up four miles out of a town of 350 people, and there were only 80 kids in my entire high school.  Heck, the grocery store was 25 miles away.   My learning options were extremely limited, and it took me a long time to figure out how to get where I’ve always wanted to go.  So I hope I can pass on what I’ve learned to you and ease your passage into your dreams.

So, in summary, vote for my blog and all your wildest dreams will come true.

You go, guy! I love your comment about growing up! I’m 55 and I’m still not grown up. I think being “young” helps you as an inventor!

cool blog i like it. though admittedly my blog is the opposite for the most part i’m proving that I’m an idiot in it.

    Thanks for the comments, guys.

@Lindsey: I’m pretty sure my wife wishes I would grow up ;)

@kingbiscuit: Lol, I’ll always be in good graces with the idiot gods, no matter how hard I fight it…

@cvs: Thanks for the tips! I’ll have to try a little harder. This is old work I’ve been posting so far, so hopefully as it catches up with real time I’ll find more multimedia to post.

A cartoonist friend of mine, Allison Barrows, told me that you are never old if you are still finding music that you have liked and never listened to before. Just sayin’.

Anyway, really cool blog! I’d love to shake your hand, and I’d love to see more of your creations.

Hi Nelson! surprisingly your description describes me too hehe. Is interesting to found someone that wanted to be inventor. I wanted to be inventor or scientist.. Started from scratch, I worked in electronics for 15 years. I actually do some atmega projects. Is great to build things !

    Cheers!

    Hi Brad

We are looking for people interested in robots to work on JPods. In the next 12 years we need to replace 70% of oil-powered urban transport with JPods networks. JPods are ultra-light robotic vehicles that travel suspended from overhead rails.

    Thanks

Wow, Bill – My hat’s off to you for a truly visionary project.

I have a habit of shameless plugs for products and ideas that I really like. Anybody reading this should definitely check out Bill’s website: http://www.jpods.com

    Congratulations for your project!
For a beginner like me it is complicated to put all together (Tasker-SL4A-Python)
I have tried to follow the steps, but I’m unable to make it work with Tasker.
Can you attach the files or configuration you are using?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Brad,
I am in Oregon also. I have a 3D printer design that I need help with. I have designed a very successful Fractal Antenna. But,I need for someone to write the code to print my newer idea for a very unique fractal antenna design. Trust me no one has ever thought of this. I designed and built a fractal antenna in 2015. Please contact me.
